About Martin Smith
Martin Smith is the founder of Viable Computing cc and is located in Cape Town, South Africa. He has a BSc(QS) and a BCom degree from the University of Pretoria. Martin is registered as a professional quantity surveyor with the South Africa Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) and as an Associated Valuer with the South Africa Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SAPVP). He is a member of the South African Association of Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS) and currently serves as the chairman of the Construction Economics Committee of that association.
Martin has gained specialist knowledge in building and property economics (including financial viability analysis) over more than 25 years at one of the more prominent quantity surveying practices in South Africa. He was instrumental in developing an extensive software package to assist in the evaluating of the economic viability of property schemes and compilation of meaningful reports.
Martin left the practice early in 2002 to further his international career in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America. He returned to South Africa at the beginning of 2009 and established his own quantity-surveying practise soon thereafter.
In response to local and Africa based fellow quantity surveyors, architects, developers and others in the property field’s requests he embarked on an extensive re-writing and improvement of the earlier software package incorporating the latest technological advancements and international experience gained.
The result was Viable a new, improved, rewritten package. Viable incorporates many emerging technologies into a powerful application. Viable will give investors, brokers, developers, and anyone who is interested in investing in real estate, a solution to finally simplify their investing analysis process.
